Lakshadeepam at Padmanabhaswamty temple
Lakshadeepam at Ananthapadmanabha swamy temple. This event is celebrated once in 6 years.

Lakshadeepam is the lighting of one hundred thousand lamps. This is normally done at Sree Anantha padmanabha swamy temple at ┬áthe conclusion of ‘Mura Japam’ – a ritualistic chanting of the vedas, done once in 6 years on first day of the Malayalam month of ‘Makaram’ – mid January. As I spent 8 years in Thiruvananthapuram, I was fortunate to witness this visual and spiritual spectacle twice – in 2008 and 2014.
